This is a tour that can be loved by young and adults equally. The Butterfly Garden in Monteverde is a place where you can learn, and enjoy just by looking at the beautiful insects within it.
This is an educational project managed by people who are passionate about insects and love to share with others their interest. It was founded 16 years ago and deeply cares about educating and teaching about the conservation of insects and arachnids to everyone who visits.
In this garden, you can find up to 50 different species of butterflies which are raised and reared throughout the year and you can enter into the rearing chamber and learn about how the caterpillars become butterflies, even if lucky you might see a butterfly first fly!
This garden has not only butterflies but also a great variety of different arthropods; you can visit their insectarium and even see their active leafcutter ant colony, see humongous tarantulas or Hercules Beatles all in one place.
During the tour, you will discover the different defense mechanisms, behaviors, and feeding habits of Costa Rican butterflies. As you finish on the exhibition room, you can follow to one of the four gardens where beautiful butterflies can be found in their natural habitat.
